Meet Dr. Laura Navia
Dr. Laura Navia is a licensed psychologist in the state of Florida. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Florida. She further pursued graduate training at the same institution, earning a PhD in Psychology from an APA-accredited program with a specialization in Pediatric Psychology.
During her graduate training, Dr. Navia completed a Clinical Psychology Internship in the Department of Psychiatry at the UF College of Medicine. This internship provided her with specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for individuals with OCD, particularly in intensive outpatient programs.
Following her internship, Dr. Navia pursued a Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Under the mentorship of leading experts, she honed her expertise in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Dr. Navia is recognized as a certified PCIT therapist by the PCIT International Association and diligently maintains this certification up to date.
After completing doctoral training, Dr. Navia joined a prominent children’s hospital working with youth diagnosed with chronic and acute medical health conditions. She has gained extensive experience working with children and adolescents who have various gastrointestinal conditions, type 1 diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and those who have experienced medical trauma. Dr. Navia collaborates closely with her medical colleagues and participates in interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.
Dr. Navia has provided psychological services to children, adolescents, and their caregivers in various settings, including outpatient psychology clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and outpatient pediatric specialty clinics. Her therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based treatments in a collaborative manner, ensuring that each child’s unique needs are met.
As a member of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Navia regularly attends psychological conferences. She stays informed on the latest research and prioritizes science backed interventions.
Originally from Colombia, Dr. Navia is proficient in both English and Spanish.
